The Pure Eden Shiraz comes from a single vineyard in Australia's Eden Valley, hence "Pure Eden". Ancient Shiraz vines planted in the 1890s grow here. Since 2011, this valuable plot with its more than 100-year-old vines has belonged to Langmeil. It was quickly recognized that a special and independent wine was growing here, and the harvest from this site has therefore been bottled separately since 2013. This means that Langmeil has created a second icon wine alongside "The Freedom".
The Pure Eden Shiraz Vintage 2018 is a complex powerhouse, its aromas reminiscent of ripe blueberries, cedar wood, black olives and hearty herbs. It is very powerful on the palate, has a lot of body and noticeable tannins, which provide the supporting corset in the very long finish. A wine that is also a lot of fun when young, but can also easily mature in the bottle for two decades.
Quoted by Joe Czerwinski in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a vineyard planted by Charles Angas in the 1890s, Langmeil's 2018 Pure Eden Shiraz is a knockout. Lifted, slightly herbal notes (mint, sage, bay leaf) lead the way , quickly joined by notes of blueberries and blackberries. There's a bit of vanilla too, as about one-third of the wine went into new French oak (the balance went into used barrels). Full-bodied, concentrated and intense on the palate, framed by softly dusty tannins and with a long, long finish, it's a terrific example of Eden Valley Shiraz that should age well for up to two decades. 96/100"
