This subtle Pinot Noir grows in the relatively warm Herrenholz vineyard in the Vienna wine-growing region. Which its limestone soils, it's ideal for growing red wine; this is especially true for Pinot Noir. The Pfaffl reserve has a typical Pinot color, rather a bit darker for this vine. The scent is reminiscent of Amarena cherry ice cream and nougat, perfect oak influence, it has no greasy notes or that unspeakable strawberry tone of many pinots from German-speaking countries, but is also clearly not a wine from Burgundy. Here, Pfaffl has succeeded in creating an absolutely independent and high-class Pinot Noir that does not run after any style, but confidently shows its individuality. Bravo!
