Le Clos du Roy takes its name from the fact that this vineyard used to belong to the French royal family. Even today it is considered one of the very best vineyards in Mercurey. In 1971 the Faiveley family bought a parcel there. The oldest vines are from the same year today, the remaining vines were planted in 1982, which means that we can now fall back on a beautiful old vine population. Due to its fine tannins, the Clos de Roy wines are compared to their northern brothers on the Côte d'Or.
2021 is a cool year, stylistically reminiscent of the 1980s and 90s. Overall a high-quality vintage with a very elegant style, the wines are clear and fresh. Unfortunately, the harvest is again very small.
