The Crognolo by Tenuta Sette Ponti is a pure Sangiovese that is matured in French barriques. In its intense bouquet it shows notes of black cherry, plums and dark berries, vanilla, chocolate and some cinnamon. With all the fullness on the palate, there is also structure here, all components are in perfect balance, the wine is intense but never intrusive, the round tannins complete the taste profile beautifully.
The international press is enthusiastic, the 91/100 from Falstaff seem almost stingy, Parker's Wine Advocate comes in at 93/100, James Suckling even at 94/100. Luca Maroni is probably not cute enough, so "only" 93/100 (just kidding).
