The red Châteauneuf-du-Pape of the Domaine du Vieux Lazaret consists of the classic vines of the southern Rhône Valley. Grenache Noir accounts for the largest share, along with Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre. The wine is traditionally fermented and stored in concrete tanks, only about 15% âre aged in oak barrels. For the perfect balance, grapes from different soils and vineyards of the famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape area are used for this cuvée.
2020 is a very good vintage on the southern Rhône, the result is a full-bodied and emphatically soft Chateauneuf with Mediterranean flavor and a lot of charm, which can be enjoyed immediately after bottling, but it also keeps for a number of years years in the bottle. The style of the Vieux Lazaret is very reminiscent of the enchanting 2018 vintage in the southern Rhone with its opulent fruit and soft tannins.
