Domaine Henri Magnien cultivates a soft, almost opulent style for their red Burgundies. The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes (=old vines) sometimes means really old here. The vines for this special wine are between 40 and 100 years old. The domaine's special Pinot Noir clone even has its own name: Pinot Magnien. This clone is only available from Henri Magnien and is used for all of the house's wines
.The rather cool 2021 vintage complements the natural richness of the Magnien style with the delicacy and structure of the year. The result is a juicy Gevrey Chambertin, which also has enough bite and freshness. Stylistically it's in the same vein as the Gevrey version from the not-so-old vines, but with just a touch more of everything.
