Thierry Mortet makes very classically structured Burgundies that can be stored for a long time. The Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from a 3.1 hectare plot with vines up to 60 years old, which gives this Burgundy power and depth.
The Gevrey-Chambertin is Thierry Mortet's most important wine, as it accounts for around 50% of the winery's red wine production. The aim is to produce a lively and structured Burgundy by hand. Thierry Mortet ages 30% of the Gevrey in new barriques and only filters it lightly before bottling.
2022 is one of the best Burgundy years of our time. The wines have a wonderful freshness and precision with ripe tannins and plenty of extract.
Thierry Mortet's Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 is reminiscent of ripe red berries, cherries and spices, along with a well-dosed wood note. On the palate it is lively, precise and with very good substance in the long finish. The ripe tannins show presence, but are never dominant.
It is best to let this classic rest in the cellar until 2027 and then enjoy it over the next 15 years or longer.
