The Langmeil Fifth Wave Grenache takes its name from the fifth generation of the Lindner family, who planted this vineyard in 1973. This makes it part of Langmeil's Old Vine Garden Series.

The 2019 vintage was characterized by extreme drought, which minimized the yield. The result was highly concentrated wines with a lot of substance. 11% of the 2019 Fifth Wave Grenache was aged in new French barriques and the majority in used American wood. This ensures a modern wood tone, which suits Grenache very well, as this variety usually does not benefit from excessive use of barriques.

As befits a Grenache Noir, the color of the Fifth Wave is not too dark, it can be described as a light to medium crimson red with violet reflections. The scent is reminiscent of black cherries, raspberries and blackberries, with a hint of vanilla from the wooden barrels. On the palate it is decidedly juicy and opulent, the notes of the nose are reflected in the long and supple finish. The tannins provide just the right amount of structure, while the wine always remains soft. An excellent example of what excellent Grenache wines can produce in the Barossa Valley.
