The Sori Tildin is one of the three legendary single layers Barbaresco by Angelo Gaja. It is located above the Costa Russi site and is the most elegant of the three crus due to its altitude. Sori denotes a south-facing location and Tildin derives from the nickname of Anelo's grandmother. This Barbaresco was bottled for the first time with the 1970 vintage. Between 1996 and 2012, this wine was labeled as Langhe DOC because they wanted to be free to integrate the Barbera, which was also grown in this location. Since the 2013 vintage, the Sori Tildin, like the other Gaia vineyards, has once again been under the umbrella of the DOCG Barbaresco and is 100% Nebbiolo.
This famous wine is one of the best you can have in a glass. Long lasting, complex, structured and very deep. A great red wine. The Decanter magazine writes about the 2017 Sori Tildin Barbaresco: "It shows delightful purity of fruit and fragrance on the nose, with lifted and fresh raspberry aromas. Although suave and velvety on the palate, there are robust and assertive Tannins beneath the fruit. This has tension and gravitas, more so than Costa Russi in this vintage. Very long. 95/100"
Falstaff magazine is at 98/100 and writes: "Shining ruby garnet with a slightly light edge. Fragrant and fresh on the nose, showing notes of fresh ginger, raspberry and ripe cherry characterize the overall impression. Red fruit present in the approach, opens with fine-meshed tannins, flows calmly, with a long finish, fine melting."
