Vines of the Baga variety, on average 40 years old, are the suppliers for Luis Pato's Vinhas Velhas. At the end of August, the vines are thinned out in order to give the remaining grapes even more concentration until the harvest takes place a month later. The ageing is traditional, used 650L barrels are used, in which the wine matures for another 12 months before it is bottled. The result is a characterful red with grip and depth that can easily mature in the bottle for 15 years. Exciting!
