Torre de Oña is a winery in Rioja Alavesa that belongs to the La Rioja Alta group. More modern Rioja wines are produced here than in the traditional mother house; the emphasis here is more on the fruit than on aging aromas.
2019 is a really great Rioja vintage. Of course a Finca Martelo was released this year. Robert Parker's predecessor, born in 2019, received a sensational 95/100 points. 2019 (not yet rated) the fifth vintage of Martelo Reserva. There was no Martelo Reserva in 2017 and 2018. The best Tempranillo grapes (95%) and Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura grapes (together 5%) were harvested for this top wine in particularly good plots of land planted with vines over sixty years old. After twenty-four months in American & French barriques it was bottled. The result is a highly concentrated and intense red wine that is one of the absolute best in Rioja Alavesa.
