The Bordeaux appellation Côtes de Castillon has been called Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOP for several years. It is located east of the town of Saint-Emilion in the Libournais, where the Merlot vine dominates.

In 1998, Stephan Graf von Neipperg acquired the beautiful Chateau d'Aiguilhe in the Côtes de Castillon and quickly made it the first address in this AOP. The 90 hectares of the winery are planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

The red wine from Chateau d'Aiguilhe is an opulent and juicy style of Bordeaux, the high proportion of Merlot makes it very smooth, but also has depth and substance. An excellent value. You can enjoy it in its first years, but in good years like 2020 it also matures positively in the bottle for at least 15 years.

The wine from the excellent 2020 is of course particularly good. It is certainly one of the best d'Aiguilhe of all time, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider rates it 94/100, Wine Spectator magazine is at 92/100. This vintage consists of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and was aged for sixteen months in barriques, 305 of which were new.
