East of Saint-Emilion lies the Bordeaux appellation Côtes de Castillon, recently referred to as Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOP. In 1998, Stephan Graf von Neippberg bought the beautiful Chateau d'Aiguilhe there and made it the flagship winery of this designation of origin. The 90 hectares of vineyards are planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau d'Aiguilhe produces a wonderfully juicy red wine, smooth, full and with substance. It is very easy to drink when young, but also matures well, which we were recently able to convince ourselves of again with wines from the 1990s. Here you get a lot of Neippberg style for a relatively small price.

Of course, the wine from the grandiose 2016 vintage was particularly good. This is probably the best d'Aiguilhe of all time, the French wine guide Bettane+Desseauve awarded this wine a whopping 94/100.
