Under the simple number 904, which evokes the merger of La Rioja Alta with Bodegas Ardanza in 1904, the winery brings one of their two Gran Reserva Top wines on the market. Vineyards with vines over 60 years old are used for this cuvée, 90% is Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. Here, too, mainly used barriques are used, in which the wine is matured for 4 years, the aroma of new oak is not desirable.
2015 was an excellent vintage that met the quality standards of a 904. There was no 904 in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Incidentally, the 2015 was the first to bear the additional designation Selección Especial on the label. It is aromatically a more classic Rioja. but has a lot of body and tension, because today you harvest riper grapes than in the past in Rioja, but that doesn't change the great complexity and great aging potential. A great Rioja without a doubt.
