The Saint Emilion Grand Cru Château la Croizille has been owned by the de Schepper family since 1996. Since 1999, the wine is produced as an ultra-premium selection, strict selection of the grapes, 100% new barrels and a low yield lead to a concentrated but never heavy wine, which is one of the best growths of the area. Since it is not sold by the big negociants in Bordeaux, it is still an insider tip, although the wine came to the TOP 3 in a tasting of the magazine Decanter of the vintage 2005 with assembled the Saint-Emilion elite. Croizille got spectacular 19.5 / 20 points.
Château la Croizille is located in the very best position in the immediate vicinity of the Châteaux Troplong-Mondot, la Mondotte and Tertre-Rotheboeuf. La Croizille also has the only terrace vineyard in Bordeaux. The newly created futuristic building is a real eye-catcher in the architecturally rather conservative Bordeaux area and is also open to visitors.
The vintage 2010 is one of the so-called "Century vintages". It combines the volume and juiciness of the 2009 with the power and structure of the vintage 2000. Of course, under these ideal conditions at Chateau la Croizille a truly great wine with an ageing potential of several decades was produced. Now, in the year 2017, the 2010 la Croizille starts to open up slowly and reveals all its delicacy, which has hitherto been hidden behind a wall of plentifully mature tannins. At all densities, this wine floats over the palate easily, an attribute that only the greatest wines have. A stunningly beautiful Saint-Emilion in a classic style, far from the now unfortunately so often encountered Merlot jam of the right bank of Bordeaux.
