Bodegas Faustino keeps a reserve of outstanding vintages that are released for sale years or even decades later. That is why the 1970 vintage is also available today. This is the cellar reserve of the winery, i.e. bottles that have not been moved for decades and are therefore in top condition. These bottles are referred to as Mythical Vintage.
The winery itself describes the 1970 Faustino I Gran Reserva as follows: "Clean, bright. Ruby red color developing into maroon. On the nose it is complex and elegant, broad fruity and spicy notes. Elegant on the palate, with pleasant hints from the barrel aging. Long and silky finish." Adam Lechmere described the 1970 Faustini I Gran Reserva in Decanter magazine as the best vintage with a light nose with cherry aromas and dried rose petals. On the palate he found it wonderfully salty and with "pungent fresh fruit" and a "terrific finish".
The 1970 Faustino I consists of 85% Tempranillo, the remaining 15% are divided between Graciano, Mazuelo and the white grape variety Viura.
