Kühling-Gillot - Rheinhessen

Kühling-Gillot is the winery of Carolin Spanier-Gillot, married to H.O. Spaniard who runs the Battenfeld-Spanier winery in Wonnegau, also in Rheinhessen. Kühling-Gillot has best vineyards in Nackenheim, Nierstein and Oppenheim, including Rothenberg, Pettenthal, Hipping, Ölberg and Kreuz, all of which are approved for Großes Gewächs. All local wines (Ortsweine) are from erste Lagen and grosse Lagen vineyards, which makes this category particularly attractive.

Eichelmanns Wine Guide awarded Kühling-Gillot: Winery of the Year 2018 with the best white wine range of Germany.

Both of the Spaniards' wineries have been farmed organically since 2005, and even biodynamically for a few years (DE-ÖKO-039). In recent years, this estate has advanced to the very top of German wineries. In each category you get the best possible wine quality, from the Gutswein to the breathtakingly good Grosse Gewächse.

Rheinhessen is the German wine-growing region with the steepest career in the last 30 years. From mass wine production to the absolute pinnacle of dry Riesling. The Spanier family with their two wineries, Kühling-Gillot and Battenfeld-Spanier, is certainly part of this development. Carolin Spanier-Gillot, who studied viticulture, took over the Kühling-Gillot estate in 2002 and led it to its current glory. The last vintages have even shown another leap in quality, it's simply stunning what leaves the cellar here.

Gerhard Eichelmann's wine guide awarded the title Winery of the Year 2018 to Kühling-Gillot. Quote: "The winery was already recommended in the first edition of the wine guide, which was published for the 18th time this year. Nine years later, the winery was named Newcomer of the Year. Nine years later, the wines are more exciting than ever, have continued to gain in complexity and sustainability." Gerhard Eichelmann on Kühling-Gillot.
