Galicia is located in the north-west of Spain and is especially famous as a white wine region, since the climate is relatively cool here. These fresh white wines have a first-class reputation in Spain and the US, and are still relatively unknown in the rest of the world. They taste best in their youth up to a maximum of 4 years (depending on the type of development and quality level) after the harvest and are an ideal companion of all dishes with fish and seafood.
The most famous D.O. Galicia is likely to be Rias Baixas, in which the white wines from the grape Albariño have also established themselves internationally.
In Monterrei thrives the Godello, a characterful variety that yields fresh white wines with notes of white fruits.
Another important subregion of Galicia is Ribeiro.
