South Africa

South Africa has a long winemaking tradition; in the mid-17th century, Dutch immigrants imported the first vines from Europe. Despite the very warm climate, more white than red varieties are planted in the Cape region, the Chenin Blanc is still by far the most cultivated variety in falling trend. Followed by the white grapes Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. South African wines profit from low production costs in international competition and therefore usually offer a lot of pleasure at a pleasing price.
