The red wines from Volnay are considered the most delicate and sensual of the Côte de Beaune. The Volnay Les Mitans by Les Parcellaire de Saulx is a perfect example of this. Classified as Premier Cru, the Mitans vineyard, which means "middle" in Old French, is located in the north of Volnay, near the border with Pommard, where the most substantial Volnays grow.
Decanter magazine awards 93/100 to the Mitans 2018 and wrote in August 2020: "Very youthful, medium color in the glass. Fine and elegant, reserved and with a very good balance between fruit ripeness, subtle wood note, purity of taste and length. Very good floral nose on the nose, lots of spice on the palate with oak that is hardly perceptible here in addition to raspberry and blueberry character. Needs three years, but will be very good."
