The Brancaia TRE is from the Chianti communities of Radda and Castellina, as well as from the Maremma. Hence TRE (=three), as well as for the three grape varieties usually used. The composition of the grape varieties can differ depending on the vintage, 2021 has 70% Sangiovese, in many predecessors since the first vintage 2000 the proportion was 80%. It is supplemented by 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Two thirds of the wine is aged in French tonneaux, a 500L barrel, the last third in concrete tanks.
The smooth Brancaia Tre is a beautiful everyday wine for the discerning, it is softer and fruitier than the Brancaia Chianti and you can serve it with a variety of dishes. You can drink it young, but it also ages well in the bottle.
Vinous.com gives the 2021 TRE 90/100 points and calls it stunning.
James Suckling is at 93/100, which is a real statement in this price range. He praises the raspberries, cherries, orange zest and cedarwood he senses in the scent. The palate is accurate with creamy tannins, polished, long and focused, also mentioning the excellent value.
We particularly recommend it with antipasti, poultry, BBQ, pizza or pasta.
