The Probstey Silvaner from Thörle is certainly one of the most highly awarded wines of this traditional grape variety. James Suckling rates the vintages 2019 and 2020 with 95/100 points. He has not yet rated 2021 (August 2022), but the 21 should actually be superior to its predecessors in terms of finesse and freshness. Suckling writes about the 2020 that one could easily mistake it for a 1er Cru from Burgundy. In fact, there is little more praise than this. Welt am Sonntag (a german newspaper) wine author Manfred Klimek writes about the 2014 vintage: "It's the best Silvaner I've ever drunk."

In terms of style, the Probstey Silvaner is indeed a white wine with a Burgundian touch, which is mainly due to its creamy yet fresh nature and is supported by the finely dosed wooden barrel aging. We also believe it has storage potential for a few years, during which it should become even more complex in terms of aroma. In its youth it shows aromas reminiscent of smoke, herbs, quince and ripe apricots and plums.

The Probstey vineyard slopes steeply to the south. The barren soil consists of clay marl, limestone and sand and is ideal for the production of high-quality Silvaner. The Weingut Thörle has particularly old vines with small berries here, which give rise to this wonderful wine. It is fermented in 500l tonneaux and large traditional oak barrels, in which it is then stored on the yeast for 10 months. Don't miss out on this high-quality wine full of character.
