Saint-Amour means holy love. This name comes from a Roman soldier named Amor who settled in the area of this area and worked as a missionary.
Saint Amour is the northernmost of the ten Cru de Beaujolais, not far from the Maconnais border. It is said to have a very delicate and well-balanced nature, which is why you can enjoy drinking it immediately after bottling. It is usually best in the first to fifth year after harvest.
Saint-Amour is the smallest cru at Laurent Perrachon in terms of volume. The only 0.58 hectare plot with stony soil in the north of the AOP yields just around 4000 bottles in normal years. What is special about this plot are the very old Gamay vines, which have an average age of around 70 years. This gives this Saint-Amour Vieilles Vignes a particularly high level of complexity and depth. 2020 was also an excellent wine year with high grape ripeness, the wines are juicy, balanced and relatively opulent for a Beaujolais. It's a lot of fun.
