The Roda I Reserva is the dark berry counterpart to the Roda Reserva (formerly Roda II). The selection already takes place in nature, you know which vineyards deliver this dark character to the wine and when the berries have to be picked. The grapes for this wine must come from vines that are at least 30 years old.
The Roda I Reserva 2017 was aged for 16 months in French oak barriques, of which 50% were new and 50% were used for the second time. After bottling, it is allowed to rest in the bottle for another twenty months before being delivered to customers.
The aromas of the 2018 Roda I Rioja Reserva are reminiscent of plums, blackberries, cocoa, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon and balsamic notes. The oak is present, but fits perfectly into the overall aromatic picture. In addition, the fragrance is very varied and pervaded by mineral complexity and depth. On the palate it has a dominant appearance, again plums, the extract-rich, full body is supported by mellow tannins, which give the wine its lively freshness and ensure a high drinking flow. All this succeeds despite the cool climate of 2018, which resulted in a rather mixed harvest in Rioja. This in turn shows the skills of those responsible at Bodegas Roda.
