Wine has been produced in Australia since the 18th century. The over 60 wine-growing regions are all located in the cooler southern part of the country. The most famous cultivation areas are Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Hunter Valley, Margaret River Wine Region and McLaren Vale. Australian wine has enterd the market with rich and soft red wines, which often also shine with an excellent price-quality ratio. The Syrah or Shiraz is the most important grape of the Australia, folowed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
