Campania

The Italian wine-growing region of Campania with its capital Naples is located in the south-west of the country. A little more than 40,000 hectares of vines are planted here, mostly on soils of volcanic origin. Red wine has the largest share of the production. The most famous local grape variety is probably the Aglianico, whose powerful red wines also have a growing international reputation. The most famous DOCG wine of Campania is the Taurasi, a long-lived and very robust red, which must be at least 85% from the Aglianico grapes. Another autochthonous red varietal of Campania is the Pedirosso.
