Provence red wines
As a supplier of large quantities of rosé wines with a holiday flair, Provence has long been well known. In fact, more rosé is produced here than red or white wine. The exciting red wines of Provence - and there are some of them - are often overlooked. Voluminous wines with Mediterranean succulence and spices notes like the Bandol , Côtes de Provence , Côteaux d'Aix en Provence or Palette can be immense and characterful and sometimes show a high maturity potential.
In addition, Provence is increasingly being discovered by innovative winemakers who produce great wines in areas that have not yet been noticed, such as Gregor Drescher with his Cave de la Petite Révolution. In Provence the typical Mediterranean grapes dominate the scene, Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Carignan and the Mourvedre, for new plantings Syrah and Cabernet are very popular.
