The clay and slate soils of Nierstein, the so-called Roter Hang = Red Slope, is the home of this impressive and crystal-clear Riesling local wine from Kuhling-Gillot. Mineral elegance and intense fruit are combined here with a precise structure and an almost oily extract. This excellent Ortswein by Kühling-Gillot is composed from the first vineyards in the municipality of Nierstein. Here we are at a level that many great wines from other wineries do not reach. That's why the price of just over €20 is more than justified.
The rather cool 2021 vintage plays fully into the cards for the Riesling from good locations. Anyone who appreciates elegance and clarity will be happy here. The winegrowers had to work a lot to produce first-class wines, which is of course standard in top companies like the Spanier family. The Niersteiner Ortswein 2021 smells of apples and pears, there are also peach and citrus notes, plus a fine herbal note, everything appears clear and fresh in the bouquet, which then continues on the palate. Grippy structure and ripe fruit combine to create a viscous Riesling that combines ample extract with a total lack of heaviness. You can drink this enchanting wine young, or put it away 10+ years.
