The Moscatel de Setubal grows on the peninsula south of Lisbon and is a classic among Portuguese sweet wines. Like the port wine, it is also fortified, so it is a powerful and alcohol-rich representative of this type of wine. It is made from the grape varieties yellow muscat and red muscat (both white wine varieties despite the name), which gives it a certain fragrance. Since this wine has remained relatively unknown on the export markets, the prices asked can be described as a real bargain. All the more incomprehensible since the production is quite time-consuming. After fermentation, this wine is aged in barrels for at least 5 years before being bottled and sold.
Moscatel de Sétubal should not be drunk too cool, 14-16° are considered appropriate. It goes particularly well with chocolate cake or blue cheese.
