In 2007, Sauvignon Blanc was approved as a grape variety in white Rioja. What is new is that there are wines with 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Rioja, like this one from Finca Montote. There is probably no other wine of this kind.
The vines grow in a tiny vineyard at 400m altitude which gives the lively freshness to this wine. This is located in the Rioja Oriental sub-region, formerly known as Rioja Baja.
Aromatically, the Finca Monote Rioja Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of exotic fruits such as pineapple, as well as flowers, gooseberries, cinnamon and cassis compare white Bordeaux, to which the aging in used barriques also makes a significant contribution. This exotic white Rioja has an amazing fullness and creaminess on the palate, but is always fresh and drinkable. The exotic fruit notes that accompany the extract and the body come back in the long finish.
Even if there are no empirical values yet, we believe the Monote Sauvignon Blanc Crianza is capable of a certain aging period in the bottle. Estimated conservatively until at least 2026.
