Xavier Monnot (formerly Domaine Réné Monnier) is one of the important owners in the Meursault 1er Cru vineyard Les Charmes. Together with Genevrières and Perrieres, this is considered a potential candidate for upgrading to Grand Cru. All three are in the south, on the border with Puligny-Montrachet. Charmes is considered the ideal of a Meursault, its style is supple, creamy, round and charming, even if the name Charmes has a different origin. Of the three top locations in the community, Charmes is the earliest accessible. Wines that seduce when they are young, but can also mature for a very long time.

The 1er Cru Charmes is the highest quality Meursault by Xavier Monnot. The vines were planted in 1961 and 1989, so have reached a remarkable average age, which is reflected in the depth and complexity of the wine. It is aged in small wooden barrels for 12-14 months, about a third of which are renewed every vintage.

The rather cool and classic 2021 vintage shows a bouquet that is as delicate as it is profound, reminiscent of hazelnuts, blossoms, pear, butter, white chocolate and vanilla. On the palate, the wine inspires with a perfect combination of charming fullness and mineral grip. The Monnot wines have gained even more precision in recent years, as you can clearly taste here. You can enjoy it wonderfully from now, if you like it even nuttier, you should hide it in the cool cellar for a few more years.
