The les Villeranges location in Merurey dates back to a Gallo-Roman estate, the remains of which have been found here. Incidentally, in neighboring Rully there is a vineyard with the same name. The clay soil here is very calcareous, which the Burgundy varieties like. The average age of the Chardonnay vines is around 30 years. The harvest takes place rather early because you want to preserve the freshness and structure of the wine.
The color of the 2020 les Villaeranges from Domaine Belleville is a light golden yellow with green tinges. The nose is open and clear, with attractive aromas of white and yellow fruits such as pear, peach and citrus, as well as the fine toasted note of the wooden barrels in which the wine was aged for 12 months (25% new wood). On the palate it is as clear as the nose suggests, precise, fresh and powerful, lots of finesse in the long-lasting finish. A top Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise, as one is used to from Belleville. Since 2017 we have been converting to organic farming.
