The Reserva Roda is the red berry variant of the two Roda Reservas. It grows mainly around the city of Haro, the wine center of the Rioja. The vines for this wine must be at least 30 years old. About 90% of the Roda Reserva is made from Tempranillo, the rest is shared by Garnacha and Graciano. The wine is matured in French barriques, 40% new and 60% used barrels.
The very warm and dry 2019 vintage was excellent and resulted in one og the earliest harvests ever. The Roda Reserva 2019 smells very intensely of red berries, plus there is a good portion of cherries and dark berries and some cloves and vanilla. Everything fits together perfectly on the palate, the wood blends into the full-bodied wine, the long finish is very nuanced and traversed by marbled tannins that give the wine its structure. Despite its fullness, the wine is always fresh and stimulating.
