Lirac is an appellation in the southern Rhône that has existed since 1947. It is located opposite Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the right bank of the Rhône. The plot of Château Mont-Redon is on a plateau and has a floor with large round stones, as is often the case in Chateauneuf. The mistral wind ensures ventilation of the vineyards here, which means that fungal diseases are extremely rare and thus makes viticulture close to nature possible without major interventions. The grapes are harvested by hand and completely destemmed to obtain a very high quality, clear and soft wine. One third of the harvest is aged in 228L Burgundy casks, two thirds in large traditional casks.
The Lirac rouge from Mont-Redon is a blend of the Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre grape varieties. It has an intense bouquet of blackberries, cherries and black currants, and there is also a light balsamic note and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate it is beautifully full and at the same time dense and smooth, in the long finale the aromas of the fragrance are found again. The wine is reminiscent of its famous neighbor in many areas, but is significantly cheaper. Tip! This great red goes very well with spicy Mediterranean vegetable dishes, wintry roasts and stews or even a BBQ.
