Late bottled Vintage Portt, LBV for short, is made from vintage wines that have been in the barrel longer than the Vintage Port. LBV is bottled when ready to drink, so no further aging in the bottle or decanting is required. It can be drunk by the glass for several weeks after opening.

CARM produces its LBV from the traditional red grape varieties of the Douro Valley, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional are used here, all of which come from vineyards in the Douro Superior owned by the Roboredo Madeira family. So no purchased grapes are used here. The Quinta das Marvalhas in Almendra has the latest technology and processes the grapes as gently as possible, with fermentation being temperature-controlled. Once the desired alcohol level is reached, fermentation is stopped by adding brandy. This is followed by years of aging in small barrels, the so-called pipes, until the wine is ready to drink.

The Carm Late Bottled Vintage has aromas of dark berries, black cherries, some cedar wood and liquorice. On the palate it shows a nice density and aromatic complexity, the tannins give the sweetness the necessary corset, which makes the wine very pleasantly powerful in the long finish. Try this fine port with chocolate desserts or blue cheese., or simply as is instead of a dessert.
