The Juliénas "Roche Bleue" grows on the Laurent Perrachon vineyard Château de la Bottière. The Gamay vines, which are a little over 40 years old on average, grow here on calcareous soils, interspersed with bluish volcanic rock, which gives this wine its name. The harvest is of course done by hand here, it is aged in traditional large wooden barrels.
In principle, this wine is rather powerful, which is typical of the Cru Juliénas, but the rather delicate and elegant 2021 vintage gives it a lot of delicacy and freshness. The bouquet is characterized by red berries, cherries and freshly ground white pepper. On the palate with medium weight, fine and precise tannins and a delicate fruit until the long finale. It is best enjoyed young, but it also ages in the bottle for 5+ years without any problems.
The 2018 vintage of the Juliénas Roche Bleue was most recently rated by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 89/100. A remarkably high rating for this price range. The Wine Enthusiast is at 91/100 for the 2019 vintage. Unfortunately, there are no more recent ratings (as of Jan. 2023).
