The Ilatraia di Brancaia is the Supertuscan of the Widmer family's Maremma winery. It is, so to speak, the counterpart to the Brancaia Il Blu, which comes from the Chianti vineyards. As is not uncommon in the Maremma, the Ilatraia consists of Bordeaux grape varieties, but the high proportion of 40% Pertit Verdot, a variety that is otherwise rarely given a leading role, is unusual. There are also Cabernet Sauvignon with 40% and Cabernet Franc with 20%. The 18-month expansion takes place in French barriques, half of the barrels are new. The Ilatraia has been around since the 2002 vintage.

The 2019 Ilitraia has been rated very euphorically in some cases. James Suckling finds him classy and fine at the same time and scores 97/100.

Vinous.com rates it 94/100 and calls the scent an explosion of dark plum fruit, chocolate and liquorice. In addition, due to the high proportion of Petit Verdot, the wine is more tannic than many of its colleagues in the Maremma.

The Ilatraia 2019 was the first oraganic cerified vintage of this wine.
