The name of the Evocelles vineyard comes from the old French word "Vaucelle", which means a small valley. It is very high, in the very north of Gevrey-Chambertin, also with a decidedly cool terroir. The orientation is ideally to the east. These conditions are ideal for a warm vintage like 2018, whose charming abundance of fruit is complemented by the structure and tension of the cool location.
Decanter magazine rated the 2018 Evocelles by Parcellaires de Saulx with 91/100 points. Quote: “Surprisingly pale in color and showing early development. Soft and rounded on the palate with fruity character of redcurrant and raspberry. Lots of spice and acidity on the palate - acidity a bit too obvious at the moment. Maybe the wine needs a little more time to settle after bottling. Has a chemical character on both the nose and palate - hints of tar and menthol. Typical Gevrey tannin structure - quite firm and coarse."
