The Lagrein Alto Adige by Franz Haas is grown on rather low-lying south-southwest locations (220 - 250 m), since this late-ripening red wine variety needs a lot of warmth. The lower the location, the milder the climate. After fermentation, the wine is stored in medium-sized oak barrels (tonneaux) for 10-12 months and, after bottling, again in the bottle for several months before it is sold.

The Lagrein is the darkest and most powerful variety of the native red vines in South Tyrol. The fragrance of the outstanding example by Franz Haas is reminiscent of dark berries, violets, cocoa and spices. The taste is very intense, the ripe tannins are present and give strength and structure, giving it a pleasant freshness in the long-lasting finish. With further storage in the bottle, it will round off nicely, but it also tastes excellent when young - a matter of taste.

The Lagrein from Franz Haas goes well with intense dishes such as stewed or grilled meat, game or bacon and cheese also goes well.
