A quarter each of Syrah, Castelão, Aragonés (=Tempranillo) and Alicante Bouschet are the ingredients for this juicy red from Portugal. Ermelinda Freitas even gives it 6 months in wooden barrels made of French and American oak, which is certainly not a matter of course in this class.
The red Flor de la Mar has a bright dark red color and intense aromas of ripe red and dark berries, plus a fine note of Mediterranean spices. The taste is amazingly rich, yet smooth with an attractive fruitiness and smooth tannins, followed by a long, rich finish. A great wine for small money!
