Dom Perignon 2009 is a wonderful champagne full of history and elegance. It is one of only 27 vintage champagnes that Ruinart has ever created. The summer of 2009 was particularly dry in Champagne, which is why the grapes were harvested in the summer. Due to the otherwise moderate climate this year, the wine was able to mature ideally.
This champagne is made from 100% Chardonnay, a Ruinart specialty. Ruinart recognized the special quality of this grape early on and declared it the basis of all Ruinart champagnes or, as in this case, the only grape in the cuvée. The Chardonnay grape is unique among champagne grapes in that it is white. This brings a special freshness and elegance to the champagne.
Chardonnay wines from the best Grand Cru locations were selected for the assemblage. They come from various Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs and from Sillery in the Montagne de Reims. All wines are from 2009.
After blending, the champagne was aged for 9 years in Ruinart's crayeres. The minimum storage time of 3 years for a Champagne Millesime was thus clearly exceeded. This is typical of Ruinart, who store their champagnes for a very long time. Due to the long storage in the bottle, the champagne has a long time to mature and develop its full aroma.
The name Dom Ruinart is a homage to Dom Thierry Ruinart, a monk from the time of the Sun King Louis XIV. He was the uncle of the founder Nicolas Ruinart and gave the idea to switch from the cloth trade to the champagne trade. Ruinart became the first Grande Maison of Champagne.
