The ungrafted Pinot Noir vines for this Deutzerhof GG grow on steep terraces in the Mayschosser Mönchberg. The vines bear small berry grapes which are of excellent quality. Compared to other GGs from the Deutzerhof, the Möchberg produces a softer and fruitier wine thanks to its slate-like, loess-clay soil.
The Mönchberg is a LARGE PLANT that is one of the best in the Ahr wine-growing region in terms of quality. The wine is stored in new Burgundian 228L barrels, also called Pièces. Typical aromas of the Mönchberg Pinot Noir are black currants, blackberries, cocoa and spices. The 2018 Spätburgunder Mönchberg GROSSES GEWACHS is one of the best wines that has ever grown in this vineyard. Intense, complex and long, it has everything a great red wine needs.
Peter Moser from Falstaff magazine rates the 2018 Mönchberg as 94/100 and writes, quote: "Elderberry and beeswax, almost fir honey, gingerbread-like wood. Lots of pressure on the palate from the finest means, mellow, Floury, ripe but sufficiently supporting acidity, clear fruit on the palate, integrated alcohol, a mouth full of Burgundy with the best prospects."
