2020 Spatburgunder GG Landskrone, Deutzerhof - Ahr

The Deutzerhof winery, which is small in terms of area, has a remarkable portfolio of the best vineyards in the Ahr valley. One of them is the Landskrone, whose Pinot Noir may be declared as a Grosses Gewachs (GG).

The Landskrone vineyard is located in the municipality of Heimersheim, at the end of the Ahr Valley, just before the Ahr flows into the Rhine. This exquisite vineyard is ideally south facing. The soil is lava rock on slate, which makes the wines powerful on the one hand, but subtle on the other. The concentration is achieved here through minimal yields of approx. 25 hl per hectare, and there is also a significant stock of ungrafted vines, which are always said to have a special quality. Let's leave it at that.

It is fermented in wooden vats and then matured in new French barriques. The wine can withstand this without any problems due to its density. 2020 was the third excellent red wine vintage in Germany in a row. One can only rejoice because of these qualities.

The Pinot Noir Landskrone from the Deutzerhof has an intense and at the same time subtle nose reminiscent of cherries and cassis, with a fine note of vanilla and an elegant herbal spice. On the palate it is dense and concentrated, yet also with an elegant lightness, all of which ends very long and balanced. It's really good and made for a long life. But it already tastes impressive.

The magazine Falstaff is enthusiastic about the delicate scent and the powerful taste of the 2020 Langskrone vom Deutzerhof and mentions a confident acidity (skillful formulation) and impressive fruit, as well as the finely woven tannins and the silky and long finish. 94/100!
