The Syrah grapes for the Chante Perdrix come from different plots in Cornas with southern exposure. This AOP is said to have particularly structured and long-lived wines, which was impressively confirmed by a 1955 Chante Perdrix from Delas that we tasted in the mid-1990s. The individual plots are harvested at the optimum time and then fermented separately in cement tanks before aging in wooden barrels begins.
In 2020, an outstanding Chante Perdrix was created due to particularly good growth conditions, which is one of the best vintages ever bottled. It has an intense cassis fruit, supported by spicy notes like green pepper and a hint of liquorice. On the palate it is grippy and at the same time rich in extracts, which leads to a balance at a very high level. This classy wine can be stored for many years and will develop beautifully in the bottle.
