Chateau Tour Saint Paul is a Bordeaux Superior classified winery located in Quinsac, on the east bank of the Garonne river, just south of the city of Bordeaux. The Yung family acquired the lands in 1980 and henceforth called the winery Château Tour Saint Paul, as it is customary in the family for the eldest son of a generation to be called Paul or Pierre alternately. Real construction work was done here, since most of the vines had been cleared. The new planting of the fifteen hectares was mainly made with the Merlot grape variety, which is ideal for the clayey limestone soils, with Cabernet Sauvignon on a fifth of the area.
People work carefully in the cellar, for example using a vibrating sorting table to remove unsuitable berries. This is noticeable in the wine, which always has a beautiful clarity and fine tannin structure. Stylistically, the Tour Saint Paul can be classified as modern, the high proportion of Merlot makes the wine opulent and juicy, the cool fermentation emphasizes the fruit, and the tannins are soft. A charming Bordeaux Superior. This winery consistently produces good wines at a very fair price. Of course, this is especially true for an excellent vintage like 2018. You can actually call it a bargain.
In terms of colour, it has a beautiful dark red color with violet reflections. The scent is reminiscent of ripe forest berries and also shows a hint of herbal spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and supple, the tannins support the fruit but do not dominate the wine. It tastes very good shortly after the harvest, but can also stay in the bottle for a few years. Enjoy it with light and dark meats, grilled dishes, pizza or simply as a nice glass of wine to relax.
