For friends of the white Bordeaux with nice oak barrels (I'm definitely one), Château Thieuley offers a sensational price-pleasure wine with the Cuvée Francis Courselle. The name of this cuvée is a tribute to the current owners' father, who made Château Thieuley the flagship winery it is today. The wine is grown here in an environmentally friendly way, according to the guidelines of the Terra Vitis association.

This cuvée consists of half Sémillon and half Sauvignon Blanc, which are fermented in French oak barrels after gentle pressing. The wine then ages for a further nine months in oak and on the fine lees before it is bottled. The Thieuley Francis Courselle has stunning substance and depth for this price range. The scent shows the oak, but also enough fruit, plus a slightly floral note and with increasing maturity the wine develops more and more minerality. You can enjoy it perfectly young, but it also ages positively in the bottle for at least 5 years. In the end it is a question of taste when you prefer to drink it.

Georgina Hindle writes in Decanter magazine about the 2019 vintage with an appealing texture and weight and awards 91/100 points. Unfortunately, we do not have any more recent reviews (as of March 2023).

An ideal partner for sushi, dishes with Asian spices or crustaceans.
