Chateau la Fagnouse is a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from the east of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, east of the town of Saint-Emilion. It has been owned by the Countant family since 1920, who have been cultivating the wine for several years in accordance with the principles of sustainable viticulture of the EMS association. The blend in the vineyard is typical of the region, 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc are planted here on about seven hectares, the vines are on average around 40 years old and grow on clay-limestone soils.
The excellent 2018 vintage resulted in stylistically opulent wines with soft tannins, which goes very well with the high proportion of Merlot in this wine. This is how a soft and voluminous Grand Cru came about at Chateau la Fagnouse, which is a pleasure to drink even at an early stage. There are aromas of ripe black cherries, plums and dark berries, as well as a delicate roasted note. The tannins are soft and supportively accompany the fruit until the long finale.
We recommend it with dark meat, wild poultry, grilled dishes and hearty Mediterranean vegetable dishes.
