This complex and intense Cabernet Sauvignon grows at the Zenato Santa Cristina winery in Peschiera del Garda, at the southern end of Lake Garda. Chalky clay soils and the south-facing vineyards offer ideal conditions for this late-ripening, high-quality grape variety, which is approved for the DOC Garda.
The Santa Cristina Cabernet Sauvignon from Zenato matures for 18 months in new and used barriques, which gives it flavor and structure. After bottling, it stays at the winery for about half a year before it is sold so that the wine can settle down. After all, good things take time.
The excellent 2020 edition of the Santa Cristina Cabernet has an intense bouquet of blackcurrants and red fruits, a fine herbal spice and a delicate vanilla note accompany the fruit. On the palate it is full, juicy and complex, and its soft tannins make it appear very elegant and harmonious even when young. The long finish is characterized by red fruits, vanilla and a hint of liquorice. Freshness and velvetiness come together quite perfectly here. Can be drunk young, but doesn't have to.
