The wine-growing community of Lorch is at the western end of the Rheingau. Geologically, it actually belongs to the Middle Rhine, as it is situated after the bend of the Rhine to the north, in contrast to the rest of the Rheingau, which runs from east to west. The Lorch wines are generally more elegant and delicate than those of the usual Rheingau, which taste heavier and fruitier.
The Georg Breuer winery owns 8 hectares of vines here, including 3.2 hectares in the top vineyard Pfaffenwies. These are cultivated in a way that is close to nature, no herbicides or pesticides are used at all. The yield here is also very low at around 35 hl per hectare.
The cool and rather wet 2021 vintage brought many challenges for the winemakers, but the best, like Theresa Breuer, knew how to deal with them and were able to produce very classically structured wines with precision and cool aromas that are among the best of recent years.
The Riesling Estate Lorch 2021 by the Breuers has a scent reminiscent of citrus fruits. On the palate it is characterized by mineral elegance, finesse and the usual crystal clear nature of the winery. The present acidity marbles the wine until the long finale, the extract balances everything perfectly. A beautiful and very typical dry Riesling.
