Vedeau, Stéphane - Rhône
Stéphane Vedeau, owner and oenologist of la Ferme du Mont, is a gifted wine-maker. He masterfully manages to tickle the maximum from the vines, without the wine tasting overripe or clumsy. Critics like Robert Parker are full of praise. Stéphane Vedeau's Grenache wines are generally very discreet, if at all marked by oak. The ripe fruit and juicy spiciness is the main focus. Filtering and fining are avoided if possible. Pesticides are taboo.
The Vedeau wines of the southern Rhône Valley are labeled with La Ferme du Mont, the northern Rhône with the maiden name of his mother Jeannine Boutin. The Vedeau collection is extensive, including Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Côtes du Rhone from the south, Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Crozes-Hermitage from the northern Syrah part of the Rhône valley. In each category, these wines are remarkably good and reasonably priced.
