Thévenet, Charly - Beaujolais
Charly Thévenet, vintner in the fourth generation, produces only one wine in the Beaujolais Cru AOP Régnié , which he calls "Grain & Granite" (berry & granite). The up to 70 years old Gamay vines are grown naturally, without the use of artificial fertilizer and pesticides. The winery is currently in the conversion phase to organic farming.
Charly produces a Régnié with power, finesse and depth, that is rarely found in the Beaujolais, even if it is immediately recognizable as a Beaujolais. He fermets the wine exclusively with natural yeasts and does not filter it, and his wine contains only a minimal dose of sulfur. The maturling prior to bottling takes place in concrete tanks (50%) and 50% in burgundy tonneaux.
Charly's Régié has a very good aging potential and a lot of depth, the tannin quality is wonderful. Somewhere this wine reminds of a Chambolle-Musigny. Beaujolais can mature and belongs in the focus of wine lovers, if it is made like this. Great!
